Happy Holiday!

11.30

hmm…..what have i been doing since my last exam?? bidding farewell to friends who are going back for holidays or for good…meetings and settling up the student organisation’s stuffs… yea those are the works that i have been deferring while i was having examination.

i also went to watch SWAT after exam! it was an awesome movie….. it has to…. after i was waiting for it for a good 6 months since i left the States…

so whats for today? i have got church later at 5.30 and i will be serving…. its my turn this week…. and later tonight, will be catching up with my friends for couple of pool games…..and trying to organise the revival of my badminton careers.. ahhaha…i hope my lung can afford to!

been quite hot for the whole week and will be the same for the next week or so…..i have been borrowing dvds heavily too online….. its kinda cool.. coz you pay a fixed amount monthly and you can borrow as much as you want according to your plan (for me, its 3 DVDs at once)… and they will send it to you by post together with the prepaid envelope for you to return the dvd(s) once you finished watching them……. and they will send another one…. in the mean time, you keep maintaining a list of movies that you want to watch in the rental list.. so far i have about 40 movies in the list… i wonder how long it will take me to finish them all……

so whats the plan for holidays???? i have meeting thoughout this week going to the second week of december. and if things go well as planned, will be working in the office on the third week of december until before christmas and my aunt possibly might come over to melbourne to celebrate christmas and new year. in january, back to work in the office or some other jobs….. and chia wei might come over in january…

in february for the first two weeks, i have got a placement in NAB… (yohoo, we might be occupying new office in Dockland)…..and yvette is coming down from sydney for one week after my placement……

hmmm sounds like a plan…. a relaxing one…..i should try to find some part time jobs to support me…. hiks hiks…. want to save up for the eventual travel itineraries that i have been planning for next year or even after i graduate… total up.. i need about at least $15k (AUD). how in the hell can i get that much??? grrr.. dun want to think about it now…

alrighty… have to do a little bit of spring cleaning of my apartment now.. and chester and sasha cant stop ‘miauing’, asking me to play with them……..

mission ACCOMPLISHED !!

tonight will be going to TGIF for bday dinner…. and maybe some karaoke?? well.. tension needs to be released ASAP.. my brain is exploding soon……

and it was a nice weather today….despite the unpleasant packed tram journey home… yea.. they are increasing the fare next year.. and abolishing the short trip ticket…. bloody Labour government.. cant they keep public happy??? i think this might be one of the failure in privatisation……when the govt decided to back away from one of the most basic govt job: PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!!!!

Today has been a crazy day!! I have to swallow double bitter pills!

1. My third paper in the morning was exceptionally dissapointing! I am just hoping for a pass now…. i had barely enough time to finish up the paper… not the best work i could produce at all!

2. My fave for Australian Idol, Shannon Noll has been officially defeated by Guy Sebastian, the first Australian Idol who is projected to compete in December for the World Idol. Both of them have performed greatly and amazingly! I have a slight preference for Shannon because of his songs’ choices however, as they always say Australia has spoken, and Guy is the new kid who will make it big! (and i lost a dinner bet :( )

Overall, i am not just catching up some sleeps to prepare for my final paper next Wednesday! in the mean time, im off to Kazaa to get some of the songs that were performed at the Sydney Opera House for Australian Idol grand finale tonight!

Yay.. just finished my second paper of the semester…. all the things that i anticipated will come out, did not turn out to be.. haha.. despite all the last minute stress and drama….i sticked to my old resolution, ‘no matter what happens, i still have to do the bloody paper, regardless’. so i can do it with high stress and bad mood, or i can be happy and calm in doing it… thats what i did today.. and was happy for it!

the first paper, as blogged earlier, was hard… expecting around H3 to H2B. But this second paper, i aim to get at least H2A. High H2A is good though…. (mind you, these all are revised estimates from the beginning of the semester, i was aiming to get straight H1s..hahaha… circumstances do change).

tommorrow morning is another paper…. i have about 15 hours to prepare… and i havent prepared anything yet… perhaps, its only 50% (ONLY???), so in comparison with other papers, tomm paper’s has the lowest weighting…but again 15 hours gosh.. thats not the practical time… minus about 4 hours idle time (checkin mail, answering phone calls, going to toilets, showers, watching news, stress time, crunch times)… minus about 3 hours sleep (this is already good, considering i have been sleeping about 5 hours a day, i might forgo this), minues 1 hour dinner and minus one hour travelling time to the exam (including waiting for trams, reading time, etc)! so all in all, i have practically less than 6(SIX) to 9 (NINE) hours to prepare for a hurdle 50% assignment…. would be interesting..

for now, im just relieved from the post climax second paper syndrome… gonna take at least an hour to restart my brain engine again… might even be longer… oh well..just another day i suppose… im just gonna take it hour by hour till tomm after the paper… and then i will have a week breathing space for my last paper, which i havent touched at all!!

HIGHLY recommended!!

I reckoned, this should be the song of the year! Black Eyed Peas’ – Where is the Love?

Here is the lyric, and please do tell me if you dont agree! (exception for Bush, Blair and Howard, i dont really want to hear whatever explanations you have).

What’s wrong with the world, mama
People livin’ like they ain’t got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that’ll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin’
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you’re bound to get irate, yeah
Badness is what you demonstrate
And that’s exactly how a n**** works and operates
N**, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y’all, y’all

People killin’, people dyin’
Children hurt and you hear them cryin’
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
‘Cause people got me, got me questionin’
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain’t the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don’t belong
Nations droppin’ bombs
Chemical gasses fillin’ lungs of little ones
With the ongoin’ sufferin’ as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin’ really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin’ wrong
In this world that we livin’ in people keep on givin’ in
Makin’ wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin’ each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin’ on but the reason’s undercover
The truth is kept secret, it’s swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where’s the love, y’all, come on (I don’t know)
Where’s the truth, y’all, come on (I don’t know)
Where’s the love, y’all

People killin’, people dyin’
Children hurt and you hear them cryin’
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
‘Cause people got me, got me questionin’
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I’m gettin’ older, y’all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin’
Selfishness got us followin’ our own direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids act like what they see in the cinema
Yo’, whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead in spreading love we spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That’s the reason why sometimes I’m feelin’ under
That’s the reason why sometimes I’m feelin’ down
There’s no wonder why sometimes I’m feelin’ under
Gotta keep my faith alive til love is found

People killin’, people dyin’
Children hurt and you hear them cryin’
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
‘Cause people got me, got me questionin’
Where is the love (Love)

(a perfect description of what I am now)

Every time I think of you
I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue
It’s no problem of mine but it’s a problem I find
Living a life that I can’t leave behind
There’s no sense in telling me
The wisdom of a fool won’t set you free
But that’s the way that it goes
And it’s what nobody knows
While every day my confusion grows . . .

Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I’m waiting for that final moment
You’ll say the words that I can’t say

I feel fine and I feel good
I’m feeling like I never should
Whenever I get this way, I just don’t know what to say
Why can’t we be ourselves like we were yesterday
I’m not sure what this could mean
I don’t think you’re what you seem
I do admit to myself
That if I hurt someone else
Then I’ll never see just what we’re meant to be . . .

as i stepped outside to resupply my equipments for exam (i.e. redbull) to a nearby 7-11, a fireball wind struck my face… the heat was unbearable… its 35 degrees!! unbelievable…. the hottest day so far! apparently in adelaide, it hit 37…. that is the talk of the town today… hot weather…..

as soon as i entered my apartment, i quickly turned on my air condition for the rest of the day, despite just receiving the second highest electricity bill in a year!! oh well, i like cold rather than hot…. too much for me….

today Wallabies beat All Blacks in Telstra Stadium (22-10) despite All blacks being the favourites…. go OZ !!!

today i made a full western breaky with fried mash potatoes, fries, burgers. then i went back to sleep.. hahaha pig!… started studying really late… after that taxing Tax Law exam, everything seems to be spinned out of control….grrrrr…

tomm is sUnDay.. i actually hate sunday more than monday.. coz that means that the weekend is over! not that matter now anyway, coz everyday is weekends…not knowing whats happening outside… the internet is the only window i have to the real life! sad but true…conversations are limited by SMS and Voice Mail, dedicated to Help Hotline for exam… and expanded sometimes, to MSN and ICQ, when desperations after feeling isolated drive up the crazy-thought-cycle in my mind!

Today’s Saturday edition of The Age featured the recent drama in the infamous Salt Club (int students are frequent goers). Many people blame that a revenge or a payback is not a rejected theory..

Few realised that the culture of secret societies in many asian countries have already shaped the way, of many international students here. Sure, majority of them do not get involved in any of these. But to the few people of those who are involved, it can be deadly. As proven in Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, many of these youths have backings from the ‘community’ they create or join.

When i was in Singapore, i frequent hear about the ’sparring’ that took place among members of the same secret society. ‘Sparring’ means one member will fight other member as a practice lesson. The clash amongst different groups are apparent, especially if one member of the group has entered the already divided territorial without going through proper ‘authority’. Supremity will be shown and that one person will suffer and in turn seek revenge by bringing the clans for the show down!

No, its not only in Singapore, same happens in Indonesia too. I still remembered when my best friend was stabbed to death by another group seeking revenge. The fault is, they got the wrong person. And as my friend run for help, no one was around, he died instantly, with multiple wounds on his bare chest! People were talking about revenge then, different groups react differently, but the only thing that stop them was a word of wisdom from his father, that the ‘revenge’ will not be appreciated by his son, who was lying in the coffin. I couldnt even shed a tear, dying in anger!

But this is a problem for paternalistic society.. where unless you settle it until the ‘last drop of your blood’ (a common phrase instilled in young minds), it will never be settled. Authority doesnt bother themselves with petty arguments or incidents. These people decided to take law into their own hands. Some people say its unlawful, but others say its instinct, human being, survival of the fittest. Its a matter of who decided to take down whom first.

Is this the society we live in?? Of course, on a grand scale, look at Iraq. such pre-emptive action clearly suggest that its OK to take down your enemy before they take you first….. Many people argue about it, but they get away with it…..

Like numerous incidents say… its imminent.. the question is not WILL it happen but WHEN?

The little lie becomes a Big lie

OMG, i just received an email from the President of the Union……and here is my response in red:

Dear Student,

I write to you to give you an update on proposed changes to the structure of the Melbourne University Student Union (MUSU).

As you will be aware, much attention was recently given to allegations of corruption and fraud within the Student Union. Ernst & Young were engaged by the University to investigate such claims. After months of investigation, Ernst & Young found no examples of fraudulent or corrupt behaviour by any office bearer of the Student Union. Have you ever thought about them not disclosing the allegations yet???

Despite the hype, claims of a Victoria Police investigation have not eventuated given the findings of Ernst & Young.

On the basis of these allegations – since found to be false according to whom??? you?? oh well, how am i not surprised
- the University promised to ‘reform’ MUSU on the back of headlines in The Age newspaper.

The ‘reform’ process called for students to make submissions to a working group. University appointees to the working group have admitted not reading the student submissions. The ‘consultation process’ was an absolute and total sham. Thats because you dont get you want, and you dont feel important enough???

The consultation process has also deliberately shelved a report prepared for the University by respected consultants. It seems that when these internationally renowned consultants proposed a different structure to the University, they were told their services were no longer needed. another misrepresentation, were you sleeping then??? what said in the meeting was, the new board will look into whether external help is needed, it is not up to the working group!

Despite disregarding the views of all students, in the same time period, the University has developed its own corporate and privatised ’student organisation’ solely owned and operated by the University. i think the students have spoken Scott, the student organisation as it exists today has incompetent people in it. to have reform you need radical change. unless of course, you have other motives?

In changes to be rushed through the University in the coming weeks, while all students are sitting exams and engaged in study, we will see student control over student affairs removed – forever. ohh… finally you are speaking about conspiracy??? who were the one interested saving himself, rather than having important discussion in between meetings. your constant SMS during the meeting is definitely despised by members of the group

The $12 million student budget that MUSU currently administers is dedicated to not-for profit activities such as clubs & societies, entertainment, theatre and the advisory service. unfortunately, these are being ruined by individuals in the union… sigh…

In the coming weeks, the University will turn student services into corporatised operations, lacking in student input and control. The role of the Union is to provide students with essential welfare and cultural services provided by students for students. This is something University bureaucrats will never truly understand, their priority is not students, it’s the University.
With everything the Union is meant to provide and represent, about to be stripped away from it, your only student representative body is about to be left gutted and pointless. What do you mean??? it has already been stripped….. from what it should be…..The University cannot maintain the ideals of a student organisation, nor truly promote your interests because they are often the problem. You pay over three hundred dollars a year through your Amenities and Services fee good point… have you ever asked yourself how much student money has been spent on your credit cards???, this fee is meant to be used for your benefit, not the University’s. nor should the fee be used for ‘other’ purposes

Despite paying the highest Amenities and Services fee in Australia, student services will now be required to charge students even more with the University importing its own massive bureaucracy to administer student services and money. well.. too bad… you cannot control the ‘election’ of hopefully to be genuine student representatives

Student services in 2004 will be inaccessible and irrelevant Let see in a few months time.. who is right? your conspiracy theory???. The services students have worked so hard for over the past hundred years will be outsourced to University bureaucrats in the next week who are obsessed with squeezing the last dollar out of students to prop up their own inefficiencies. comparing them with MUSU… OMG, hypocrite!

While the newspaper has got its headlines and the Vice Chancellor has savaged student control, students, however, are to be left without adequate representation and services in Scott’s dictionary, adequate means ‘i have the majority control’ or ‘i am the chair’!.

A Union stripped of money and services will be unable to protect, represent and provide for students of the University of Melbourne It hasnt been anyway… what are you talking about??? the ‘rebirth’ of MUSU??? give me a break… Have you ever asked your office bearers on how many universty’s committee meetings they have been attending through out this year alone???? i will be surprised if you hit a double digit in your counter!.

I urge all students concerned for the fate of their Union to join our campaign to Save The Union I thought some students have already started this…. now you want to join in too??? please ask them how to save the union.. and you will be surprised that two of you will have different agendas of ’saving’ the union. Over the coming weeks and months, we will be publicizing the University’s corporatisation of the Union to current and future students.

You can help and join the fight by simply replying to this email today to Presidents.Office@union.unimelb.edu.au.

We need your support and we need it now! How i ever wonder, who is ‘we’

Yours in Union,

Scott Crawford,
President
