Quote of the Year
Donald Rumsfeld , US Secretary of Defence, in relation to his country’s failing search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq: (he won most confused quote of the year, according to British newspaper, according to my friend, Johann, confused??)
“There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things we know we don’t know. But, there are also unknown unknowns. These are things we don’t know we don’t know.”
Song of the Year
Black Eyed Peas - Where is the Love?
I chose this song because it captured the mood of the year… bleak…and bloody….. people need love!
Country of the Year
CHINA
Not because I am a Chinese but because China is clearly the most emerging country this year. China has shown greater maturity in its international relation and policy. President Hu received more praises and respect than Bush did when they both travelled around Asia and Australia. Not only this, it entered the Space War by launching its own shuttle mission to space! This is all apart from the strong steady GDP Growth and its well handled SARS problem.
Man of the Year
SADDAM HUSSEIN
Time Magazine has him as the runner up for Man of the Year but because he is such a loser, they decided on American Soldiers instead. I chose him, because he changed the way countries react to other countries. From the doctrine of pre-emptive strike, it is all because of him! Perhaps the best statement he has ever made, was when he was captured in Tikrit, with M-16s pointing to his face, he could still stand up and said:
“My name is Saddam Hussein. I am the President of Iraq and I want to Negotiate!” Classic!
