state of denial

2004
04.18

without limiting my imagination, i have been in denials for the past few days or so. my f&^%-the-whole-world attitude is back in scene. while my anger was heavily contributed by countless assignments piling up and shadowing every single movement i want to make, i was more concerned about life after graduation. Mie always told me that i would be cool and so does everybody. i refuse to believe this self-imposed pressure.

my parents have been askin me about my graduation and stuff. i have been thinkin about takin honours more and more each day. i couldnt help my selfish thought and fear of not being able to get a job and thus the honours thought, and dismiss it immediately. my parents would be devastated to hear if i chose to do honours and delayed-graduation effect that follows.

i didnt talk to Mie today for somewhat reason. not that its weird or so… we sometimes go on for about two days or three days without talkin to each other. we are two busy individuals i suppose. i can understand the complication of long distance relationship and thus the difficulties of being spontaneous. Only Optus has kept us sane so far. Even mother nature wasnt kind enough for us (wait… time zone was not her fault, its Aust govt)….

my sis bday is next week, one day before me. i suggested that she go to Lapocetta, this cheap but funky italian joint, located north of victoria market. she will turn 18. the year when you have numerous of friends and thus the long invitation list. i dont celebrate my bday anymore since i turned 18/19 (cant even remember which one).

used condom

04.16

i should start collecting used condoms. they are everywhere in my newly-cleaned balcony. i just found another one today. the person who threw it must think that his sperms are soo powerful and spread it around the world. i stopped short of collecting a sample of it and send it for laboratory examination…haha.. that would be funny…..

Missing Sperms: 20ml, in semi-drenched condition, wrapped in a condom. Last seen in 108’s balcony.

I wonder if i put that notice in the lifts, whether the building supervisor or even my fellow residents in the apartment building, will appreciate my sense of humour.

motivation-less

i found less and less motivation to study. i think my brain is near its useful life to study. why why why? easter break is practically over today. i still cant grasp the fact that its friday. i have always thought its around Wednesday or so…. and the weirdest thing is, i woke up much earlier during the break than i would normally during semester….

hmmm not really looking forward to the next two weeks… its gonna be troublesome, with mid semester in auditing (which i havent touched) and countless of assignments….

on a brigther note, she is coming to Melb soon… hmmm…. exciting.

international terminal for domestic travel

2004
04.13

i had to go through the international terminal for my flight back to Melb from Sydney. We were put in the international flight. Its funny… my boarding pass has a special sticker indicating we are domestic passengers… So we dont have to go through custom etc…. but it also means we dont get Duty Free..!!
They also collected my boarding pass (which means i cant claim my frequent flyer, not that i have been anyway)

On the flight back, i was sleeping mostly (i havent slept the night before, scared for missing the early morning flight to Syd)….and the same thing happened once i reached home.

I was woken up by Adrian’s phone call.. I had to go to office asap to sort out few stuff… i was plannin to go anyway… Then in the afternoon, i had group meeting for Project Management….

Tomm…. have to go to library to do some research for my assignment on NAB… and perhaps, showing my face again at the office!

Happy Easter!!!

Happy Easter everyone!!!!

I had my first taste of meat after 40 meat-free days today… It felt good.. (except that i had to make a bathroom trip after the dinner, yea my stomach was readjusting!!).

So what did i do during the weekend? I have finished the Minutes of the 18th NLCAC 2003. Phuihhhh… that was a terrible ordeal…. the amount of stuff that have to be transcribed were just unbelievable.. But you know.. its the stuff youve got to do!! All in all, comes into a compact size of 80 pages (margin-adjusted), or about 300Kb!

Anyway… Im heading off to Sydney for a day tommorrow, returning in the evening. All national exec are making travel there to sort out the NSW branch problem. It will be an open agenda, so its gonna be interesting. I really hope that tomm gonna be a start for a new beginning for NSW (fingercrossed)…

For the next one week, im filled with meeting appointments and group assignment meetings…BUt things have started to roll now…

OH yea.. they changed the PR immigration rules to 120 points for Overseas Students. … luckily its not going to take effects until April next year.. so hopefully i will be able to put mine in at the end of this semester…

Alrighty.. off to pool with my good old mates, Shan and Dave. Havent played with them for nearly 3 weeks…

conference organising

2004
04.09

today i was glued in front of the tape, listening to the proceeding on the 18th nlcac.. i have to transcribe the minutes… its such a chore… after a whole day, i managed to finish only one day of proceeding (there were like 4 days of minutes)….its interesting to see people at the conference discussing all the things that i missed out on.. yea, i had to leave early on the second day of the conference because of Melb Uni stuff….oh well… im not really missin much.. except some bicker yelling and occasional point of orders.. the drama continues…. i cant wait to listen to the next three days of conference proceeding, coz apparently thats where the juices were….

in the mean time, i am taking a rest. in about an hour, im goin to have dinner with good old Jonathan who will be leavin Melb soon for good. He is practising law in HK..Its good to hear your friends have moved on and continued with their life… Im still suck at Uni..

yay…i finally finished off all the three assignments. the sense of relief is enormous! not really looking forward to tomm (thursday sux)…

anyway, found interesting news on the web:

1. A British physicist has calculated that the mathematical probability of God existing is 67per cent.

Stephen Unwin, a committed Christian who said he previously thought it was 90per cent likely that God existed, used the 200-year-old Bayes’s Theorem to arrive at his calculation.

He weighed the existence of evil and suffering against miracles, divided into supernatural events and miracles that occur when prayers are answered. He factored in free will, humankind’s goodness and sense of morality, and philosophical arguments for and against God’s existence.

2. A FORMER neo-Nazi who admitted to twice bombing a youth group’s headquarters in the 1990s said he was inspired to confess after watching the controversial film The Passion of the Christ.

Johnny Olsen, 41, was ordered held for two weeks by Oslo district court Monday pending an investigation. Olsen turned himself in to police over the weekend and said he was behind two bombings of a left-wing youth group’s headquarters in downtown Oslo in 1994 and 1995. No one was injured in the separate attacks on the Blitz House in downtown Oslo.

Olsen, who served 12 years in prison for murder when he was a teenager in a separate crime, said he was moved to confess by Mel Gibson’s film.

3. Indonesia’s former president Suharto holds the dubious title of the most corrupt world leader in recent history, heading a Top 10 corruption list.

Plundering a family fortune estimated at between $US15 billion and $US35 billion during his 32-year reign from 1967, Suharto was a clear winner, according to the British-based Transparency International.

The complete top 10, with the dates of their rule and estimated sum stolen in US dollars, are as follows:

Suharto: $15-35bn (Indonesia, 1967-98)

Ferdinand Marcos: $5-10bn (Philippines, 1972-86)

Mobutu Sese Seko: $5bn (Zaire, 1965-97)

Sani Abacha: $2-5bn (Nigeria, 1993-98)

Slobodan Milosevic: $1bn (Yugoslavia, 1989-2000)

Jean-Claude Duvalier: $300-800m (Haiti, 1971-86)

Alberto Fujimori: $600m (Peru, 1990-2000)

Pavlo Lazarenko: $114-200m (Ukraine, 1996-7)

Arnoldo Aleman: $100m (Nicaragua, 1997-2002)

Joseph Estrada: $78-80m (Philippines, 1998-2001)

Off to bed now..

another full on day

2004
04.06

i told you that this week is goin to be very busy for me… today was no exception.
i met adrian at flinders and we were intending to go to Khuy’s new store in Collingwood, to finalise the national executive travel on Easter Monday for a one-day meeting in Sydney. After one hour of travel (yes we were lost somehow haha, after 6 years living in Melb, unbelievable)… Paid in total about $2600 for all the 8 people from different states… Is it money well spent? Im not sure how to answer. The politically-correct answer would be ‘It was a necessary expense given the circumstances’.

Planned to go to office after the travel, but because of the lost time, i had to defer it completely. Dragged Adrian to have a lunch on this Vegetarian Restaurant (another one week to go before i becomes carnivorian)… the Lasagna was good but at 9.50, i reckoned it was a rip-off! After that, I was supposed to have meetings with ppl who might be interested in running in the student election, but instead, had another meeting with the University Secretary and other political groups to discuss issues surrounding the election. I, then decided to skip the lab today (replacement lab for the lab i skipped yesterday, double skips is the way to go), optin instead to be a dilligent National Office Bearer, and doin admin stuff….

Later on, with great reluctance, i went to my Auditing class. I was snoozing off in the seminar when my seminar leader shouted my name ‘Tedy, Wake up!’.. God, how embarrasing, and the question that i just answered, was just the same answer that was discussed earlier…. On that 10 minute break, i decided to resort to my old time fave kicker, Mr Red Bull. That stuff made me stay awake and active for the rest of the seminar… (its a 3 hour seminar)…

Now off to my assingments again.. i have three due on thursday… cant wait for easter!

a full on day

2004
04.05

wow.. today was a full on day…..

it started with me draggin myself out of bed… and went to the Indonesian Consulate General… yes, the Indonesian Election was held today to elect the House of Representative…the whole voting just takes about 10 minutes.. they are getting efficient!! But perhaps also because there wasnt much ppl in the morning and they set up so many polling booths!

in the afternoon, i went over to Trades Hall for the National Executive meeting… which was adjourned few hours later to join the rally at Melb Uni in an effort to stop the Uni Council to pass the 25% HECS increase. We couldnt find where the meeting was (even though at the end, they claimed to have found it, but by that time, the crowd has dispersed). They managed to occupy though the usual Old Law building where Council normally meets. Later on we found that the Council passed the 25% increase.. shame!

After few boring classes, i went over again to the national exec…. ACT Branch was created and Budget was passed (after intense debate as usual).. and here i am.. just got back..

On other news, Ingvar Kamprad, the Swede who founded furniture retail chain IKEA has taken over Bill Gates as the richest man according to the latest Forbes publication. HIs personal fortune of 400 billion crowns ($A69.2 billion). Gates’s fortune is put at $US47 billion ($A61.4 billion). THe main reason was apparently the sliding dollars against the crowns….

Ok.. off to assignment now!
