I knew it and it is finally confirmed. Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia is a more expensive city than Singapore, Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia or Melbourne of Australia.
The recent study released by Mercer Human Resource Consulting released the latest report which ranked Tokyo and London as the most expensive cities in the world. Sydney ranked 20th. Jakarta ranked 45th, Singapore 46th, Melbourne 67th and Kuala Lumpur at 104th. The latest study has also incorporated the recent fluctuations in the foreign exchange movements…..
The cheapest cities in the ranking are: (141) Buenos Aires, Argentina; (142) Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; (143) Montevideo, Uruguay; and
(144) Asunción, Paraguay.
I live in Jakarta and spend a lot of time in Singapore on business. Singapore is one of the most beautiful and well planned cities in the world, but there is NO POSSIBLE way that it is more expensive to live in Jakarta than Singapore. I would need a bump of 30% of my salary to entice me to move there.
It also doesn’t have near the nightlife that Jakarta has and the Government there always feels a little too constraining to really feel comfortable. That said, its a wonderful place to visit.
