another test

not soo accurate….its just another test:

You Are a Liberal Republican

When you tell people that you’re Republican, they rarely believe you.

That’s because you’re socially liberal – likely pro-choice and pro-gay rights.

You’re also not so afraid of big goverment, as long as it benefits people and not politicians.

You are the most likely of any Republican type to swing over to the Democrat side sometimes.

hot summer

it was hot today. it will worse on saturday when the heat hits 34. i think the Almighty is preparing us for that day. preview screening as you call it. yet it was only 26. bah..

i dont understand cyclists who cycle on pedestrians walkway eventhough special lane have been made just for them. the annoying bit is when they ‘horn’ at you as if they give you warning in advance that you are on their ‘way’. sometimes, the rebellious part of me want to keep firm where i am and occasionally protude my leg to trap it inside the wheel. but everytime i realise that i havent paid the overdue premium to medibank. so its not worth it after all.

chester has been acting extremely spoiled for the past week or so. perhaps he realises that soon he has to part with me. i still havent decided whether trading post or rspca would be better for him. i guess the latter would guarantee optimal care that i could ever expect. its another week.

someone yesterday ‘lectured’ me about being able to think the best of a human being when it comes to $$$$. my heart chuckled. while i was maintaining my composure most of the times, there are moments where i could no longer stand how the discussion was going. self interest people exist and blaming it on culture and personal preference over the utalitarian goal sickens me. but hey $$$ makes the world goes around, its a matter who you want to make enemies throughout.

The Balancing Act

Adrian lists out the burden of being a republican and the ‘hypocritical perception’ created from the list:

What about being a Democrat?? (here they are from various sources)

YOU MIGHT BE A DEMOCRAT:

If you think trees have feelings, animals can conceptualize and the fetus is a blob of protoplasm.

You consider the Catholic bishops noble and idealistic when they oppose capital punishment and welfare cuts but dangerous fanatics trying to legislate their theology when they defend the right to life.

You want to outlaw cigarrettes and legalize marijuana

You want to legalize cocaine and outlaw handguns. You think cops are pigs and criminals are products of their environment.

If you think the answer to ANY crime, infraction, or injustice is counseling.

If you’ve spent no less than 30 years in the walls of academia and don’t see how today could be too much different from the ’60s.

If you think the criminal has more rights than the police who arrest this criminal, unless the crime is sexual harassment, or racism.

If you use the term ‘open-minded’ and don’t care that it can’t be defined in absolute terms.

If you think only white people can be racist.

If Clarence Thomas made you sick, Bob Packwood made you protest, but Bill Clinton is a victim of partisan politics.

If you think that teenager’s sexual behavior is uncontrollable, but hardened violent criminals should be released on parole after serving a cut sentence in a “correctional institution”.

If you think that the Constitution is a living document and should be changed but the writings of Karl Marx are “written in stone”.

If you think that tax cuts hurt poor people and are uncompassionate but taking 30% from their paychecks is compassionate

If your idea of hell is having to mind your own business and not meddle in other people’s lives.

If you actually do believe that Clinton doesn’t know the definition of the words “alone”, “is”, or “correct”.

If you don’t want the Christian Right imposing their morality on you, but you want to impose big government on everyone else because they won’t do the right thing.

You’re a liberal if you can’t see the irony in your own beliefs.

If you can actually believe everyone around Bill Clinton is lying, but Bill Clinton himself is telling the truth.

If you point to God’s forgiveness of King David in reference to Bill Clinton but “forget” to read the rest of the scripture about the ruin that he inflicted on his family, his kingdom and himself.

If you think that the only acceptable hate crime is Christian bashing.

If you want to make the rich “pay their fair share” but leave Ted (more people have been killed in my car than in an American nuclear power plant) Kennedy and Dick Gephardt out of the definition of the rich.

If your idea of compassion is giving a homeless person a shopping cart but expecting them to accept the responsibilities of life is mean spirited, racist, bigoted, etc. ad nauseum.

If you think that “dumbing down” America’s school kids is compassionate but holding them to high educational standards is “mean spirited”, racist, bigoted, etc. ad nauseum.

If you think that people need to be punished for good choices and rewarded for bad ones.

If you actually refer to the Reagan and Bush Presidencies as one Presidency.

If you think that affirmative action is the only way to solve racial problems in America.

If you think that pouring blood on a $1,500 fur coat is a sure-fire way to get your message across, but if anyone protests outside an abortion clinic, they’re extremists!

If Sean Hannity makes no sense and Alan Colmes makes perfect sense.

If you make snide remarks to guys for looking at women but champion Clinton’s right to do whatever he wants with his interns.

If you think the impeachment vote was ‘just about sex’.

If you actually think Clinton ‘only inhaled’.

If the last ‘good old president’ you remember was Carter.

If you condemn Dan Quayle for misspelling potato and then ignore the witticisms of Al Gore (who are these people?)

If you actually think there IS a way that the Republicans can poison the water supply to certain people, and destroy the ozone layer.

If you think that Watergate and Iran-Contra was a travesty of justice, but anything against Clinton is partisan!

If you believe Clinton’s ‘change of heart’ after the sudden switch in the 1994 election.

If you use the words “right wing extremist” at least four times in any given day.

If you think that bombing on Iraq couldn’t have possibly had anything to do with the impeachment vote… then why did they stop as soon as the vote was done?

You complain that your community has too many white people and the Catholic church you go to doesn’t have enough ethnicity, but you’re the first one with a for sale sign in your yard when blacks start moving in.

You called Vietnam Veterans “baby killers” but think that allowing a woman to suck her baby into a sink is a constitutionally protected right.

You think that Joe Camel and big tobacco are out to kill your babies, but allowing a babies brain to be sucked out of its skull when it’s 1/3 of the way out of the birth canal is paramount to a free society.

You scream if a CEO sleeps with an employee but think that Clinton receiveing oral sex from an Intern is just fine.

You believe that Clinton was forced to lie under oath by the “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy”

You think that Ken Starr is the devil’s helper for calling Monica’s mother to testify but believe that Ollie North’s wife and minister being called before the grand Jury was fair.

You believe Clinton’s numbers about the number of jobs created and don’t credit it to the businesses given opportunities in the 1980s.

You know no recorded economic history (e.g. the massive stagflation and recession) before the Reagan Era.

You pale at the execution of child killers, but defend the killing of unborn children as an expression of choice.

You fully support women who have “exercised their right to choose” when they abort in the 3rd trimester, but think Amy Grossberg should get the death penalty before the trial even goes to court.

You think a moment of silent prayer at the beginning of the school day constitutes government indoctrination and an intrusion on parental authority, while sex education, condom distribution and multiculturalism are values-neutral.

Jesse Jackson makes sense to you. Barbra Streisand makes even more sense.

You believe corporate profits are obscene but government spending is too low and the American people are undertaxed.

You think deficits are caused by tax loopholes.

You think AIDS is spread by insufficient funding.

You are convinced that proponents of welfare reform hate the poor and opponents of affirmative action hate minorities, but AIDS activists who bash the Pope and People for the American Way types who go psycho over Protestant “fundamentalists” are guardians of democracy.

You attribute every minority problem to entrenched, institutional racism and the legacies of slavery and segregation.

You don’t understand all of the whining about affirmative action and are more than willing to sacrifice someone else’s employment or education opportunity to assuage your guilt.

You see no correlation between welfare and the rise of illegitimacy, judicial leniency and surging crime rates, or addiction and an entertainment industry that glorifies drug abuse. But you believe Richard Nixon is responsible for everything horrible that’s happened in the past quarter-century.

You believe John Ashcroft poses a greater danger to America than Osama bin Laden

You think President Bush lied to the nation, but his predecessor did not.

You believe President Bush is too dumb to be President and Arnold Schwarzenegger is too dumb to be Governor of California, but the Dixie Chicks, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Babs Streisand, Eddie Vedder, and Jeanine Garofalo are foreign policy experts.

You support racial, ethnic, and sexual diversity, but oppose the adoption of non-discriminatory hiring practices to ensure ideological diversity on university faculties.

You supported making rhetoric about human rights central to US foreign policy under Jimmy Carter, but oppose actually taking action to make human rights a reality under George W. Bush.

You believe that trial lawyers taking 33 to 40 percent of a plaintiff’s recovery in lawsuits is just about right, but the federal government taking this amount of our income in taxes is not nearly enough.

You believe Saddam Hussein, Kim Jong Il, and Yasser Arafat were fairly and democratically elected, but President Bush was not.

You root for prisoners when they escape from our oppressive prisons, but oppose allowing poor children to escape from failing public schools.

You believe all conservatives are racist, but do not think minorities can ever succeed without affirmative action.

You believe that being the former Governor of a New England state with 608,827 people is more than adequate experience to qualify someone to be President in 2004, but being the Governor of a Southwestern state with 21,325,018 people was wholly inadequate in 2000.

You agree with Toni Morrison that President Clinton was “the first black President,” but didn’t criticize Al Sharpton for recently labeling President Bush a “gang leader.”

You support campus speech codes that ban pick-up lines and amorous gazes, but never spoke out against President Clinton’s physical sexual harassment in the White House.

You can’t decide which is worse: the Patriot Act or the Patriot Missile.

You support unlimited appeals for convicted criminals, but believe it is undemocratic for Californians to reverse their earlier mistake of electing Gray Davis.

You believe U.S. exports of genetically-modified foods pose a greater threat to African nations than corrupt dictators like Zimbabwe’s Mugabe.

You believe welfare is a fundamental human right, but workfare is a human rights violation.

You believe religion is a scourge on our society, but that we will all be saved if we only have our consciousness sufficiently raised so that we become one with Mother Nature and share your faith that global warming will kill us all.

Democrats labelled Bush a big ‘LIAR’

11.19

while i dont support the war on Iraq, what happen to the hypocritical-and-systematic-flip-flop of the Democrats over Saddam Hussein and the Iraq war: (and you think that Clinton or Kerry would have approached Iraq ‘differently’)

“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line.”

- President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”

- President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

“Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face.”

- Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

“He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983.”

- Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

“[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq’s refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs.”

- Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others, Oct. 9,
1998

“Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.”

- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

“Hussein has … chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies.”

- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov.
10, 1999

“There is no doubt that . Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies.”

-Letter to President Bush, signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL) and others, Dec, 5, 2001

“We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandated of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them.”

- Sen. Carl Levin (d, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

“We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.”

- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

“Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.”

- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”

- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

“The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons…”

- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

“I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force– if necessary– to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.”

- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct.
9, 2002

“There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years … We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction.”

- Sen. Jay Rockeffer (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

“He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do”

- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members … It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.”

- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

“We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction.”

- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

“[W]ithout question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime … He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation . And now he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction … So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real …”

- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

an offer he couldn’t refuse

2004
11.16

i sat on my comfy bean bags, with ibook g4 on my lap (gracias adrian), and michael corleone on the screen looking old, advising his anthony that law degree is an insurance. anthony said, i will always be your son, but i will have nothing to do with your business. kate told michael that he was more dangerous as he becomes more respectable.

it’s like a dejavu.

my life is played out on the screen. the only thing is, the confrontation is yet to happen. it will be soon. they are coming for my graduation. i havent decided yet what i wanna do.

perhaps, i should make him an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Farewell Fighter!!

Yasser Arafat was pronounced dead a couple of days ago. I was shocked, hell, the whole world still is. Prior to the announcement, he has been in the comatose state for nearly a week. During this time, there were infightings about his estate, where he should be buried, what would be the future of the Middle East Conflict, etc.

I was sleeping when he died. Didn’t learn about it until google news told me. But as i told my friend, she posed a very interesting argument, ‘what makes you think he hasnt died earlier?, for all you know he has died a couple of days ago’.

i see merits in her argument:

1. under Islamic law, a person has to be buried within 24 hours upon his/her death.
2. Arafat is a muslim.
3. Arafat wants to be buried in Jerusalem. But Israel forbids. They were at each others’ throat on this.
4. The PLO doesnt know what to do in terms of estate that Arafat leaves for the struggle… not only that, who should lead with such a sudden departure….

So the conspiracy theory is……

Arafat might have well been dead earlier…..because of all the confusion and infightings, he was pronounced dead later than actually is….to do two things: (1) make sure u follow the Islamic law and (2)make sure everybody knows what they are doin….

But anyway… its just a conspiracy theory……

The world has lost a freedom fighter, a man of great importance in our decade. Farewell Fighter!

disgusting side of melbourne trams

2004
11.06

me and jelita just returned from dinner at nelayan. after few resupply stops at bread top, asian groceries and 7-11, we took tram to her house, with bloating stomachs… we were soo hungry that we ate too fast… and the stir fried potatoes were hanging on our throats… still deciding whether to queue up for digestion, or regurgitated back out…

anyway..as we were travellin on the tram, we encountered the most disgusting tram experience of our life….

the story involved a man in probably his 60s, probably of European descent…(generalisation here)…. he took off his shoes, put one of his foot up the chair just in front of pelvis, and start cleaning the toes one by one with the spare tissues found inside his shoes….

well as you can imagine, we were just sitting next to him on the other side of the tram, smelling the new aroma filling up at the carriage… at one time, both of us have to breath through our mouth just to make sure those potatoes stay inside……

we survived the journey. as the tram doors opened, the new fresh air going through our contaminated nose is like a brand new life….

as we walked to jelita’s place, she was explaining in details, of what that old man did…. according to jelita, the old man also hid the used tissues in between tram seats (probably with some amusement, hoping that his little secrets will be stashed away forever)… and i nearly vomitted when jelita told me that she thought that old man was cleaning some sorts of blisters or liquid-y stuff in between his toes….

geeezzzzzz…………despite my admiration with tram, there is always a disgusting side of the melbourne trams.

Four More Years

2004
11.04

Just a few minutes ago, Bush gave his victory speech. He has won the second term, after getting the largest popular votes ever in US election history. Kerry who was defiant earlier in conceding defeat, finally gave a humbling concession speech, asking for a start of national healing process, of what has become a divided nation, after the presidential race.

The election (both state and federal) has cost about US$4 billion…. i wonder how many developing countries’ GDP would that number represent… it has been a very very very expensive election

What would be interesting to see now is how election 2008 gonna plays out….. Some people say that Hillary Clinton (secretly) ‘wishes’ for Kerry to lose, so that she could contest the Presidency in the next election…… Hillary has been dubbed as the brain behind Clinton’s Presidency, will definitely create a sensational Democratic candidate for the presidential race… Bill Clinton has ’shared’ his enthusiasm in becoming the First Gentlemen of the White HOuse (he has been eager to return to the White House, after formerly occupying it *with scandals for 8 years)… He is currently ’speculated’ to be a candidate in the next UN Secretary General’s election, when Kofi Annan will finish his term in 2006.

So, who will be on the other side of the fence???? Who else but the Terminator…. the actor-turned-governor of California has not made secret of his ambition to one day occupy the White House. Arnie, has been a very popular republican, after ousting the then-Governor Davis. It’s like Reagan Part II. Reagan was an actor before he became the Governor of California, after which his bid to the Presidency gave him two straight terms as the occupier of the highest office in America….

The only problem now for Arnie is he is not a US-born citizen…. according to the US Constitution, only US born citizen can become the President of the USA. There have been talks that amendment will be made to change this constitutional clause, and I have no doubt in my mind, that they will do just that….

So.. this is going to be a really exciting election to watch….. On one hand, you have Hillary, who if elected will be the first Female President of the USA…. and on the other hand, you have Arnie, who if elected will be the first migrant to become the President of the USA….

Both have strong characters…. both have far reaching fans… and both are saleable!!!! Watchout in 2008!!

In the mean time, it’s Bush, for FOUR MORE YEARS !!!!
