CJ Rehnquist – RIP

2005
09.04

In another sad news from the land of the free, CJ Rehnquist has passed away, ending a remarkable 33 years of service at the bench with 19 years as the Chief Justice, oversaw 7 years of administration, and became the second person in history to preside over presidential impeachment.

This has created a challenging opportunity for President Bush to nominate his replacement. It wouldn’t be an easy job to find a person to fill in his shoes. Even Judge Roberts hasn’t been confirmed yet to replace O’Connor who left the bench earlier this year.

Some of CJ Rehnquist’s highlights include:

-one of the two dissenters in Roe v Wade
-broke rank with conservatives over states’ rights
-believed in judicial restrain, thus strict interpretation of the US Constitution
-supported death penalty, homosexual rights and fierce defender of free speech

A good man has returned to his resting place. May he find comfort and an eternal life.

CJ Rehnquist – Rest in Peace!!
