the cartoon war between Rakyat Merdeka and The Weekend Australian is an interesting phenomenon. i chuckled when i saw the ‘no offence intended’ cartoon – nice ‘revenge’. just as the RM’s cartoon was drawing ‘fiery’ response from the Australians, the WA’s cartoon was understandably, received very badly.
I wasn’t sure whether i should laugh or cry when i read the comment by a deputy to the house of reps – Zaenal Ma’arif:
(loose translation: “Even though the caricature is not the formal position of the Australian Government, the Indonesian Government must respond back. The Lombok Strait must be closed to all Australian ships”)
