I was talking to Dave about the meaning of life (the theme carried out in my last post) and among his beliefs is Genesis 1:28: “Be fruitful, and multiply; fill the earth, and subdue it”.
To top it off, his pastor said:
-if you have 1 kid, you are not fulfilling God’s law
-if you have 2 kids, you are barely obeying His commandment, coz you are not multiplying, you are only replacing.
-if you have 3 kids, that’s hardly obeying, coz you are only adding not multiplying.
-so technically, you have to have 4 kids to have only started to fulfill God’s command on ‘multiplying’.
Hmmmmm…… my parents will go to heaven coz they have multiplied!! I doubt i would be. coz my intention is only to ‘replace’. Will adoption count? Dont think so, coz the heaven-points will go to the birth mother and the semen donor… oh well
Francis Fukuyama in his book “The End of History and the Last Man” which was written right after the cold war… captures the ‘historic moment’ of the West’s victory over Communism. Yet, the book is not about the liberal triumphalism but is more pessimistic about the long-term prospects of Liberal Democracies as people become too focussed on peace and constantly achieving prosperity… resulting in an absence of deeper spiritual purpose (i.e. the Last Man).
My lecturer today… while talking about Fukuyama talked about the absence of Spiritualism in the world today leading to things like people taking a more litteral approach towards the bible!!!
Reading about that… made me wonder… if people like you and me living in a liberal democratic country are also swept into Fukuyama’s foretold peace and prosperity bandwagon!!! LOL…
I know ur comment was more of a light-hearted one rather than a litteral one… but still I feel Fukuyama might be able to shed some light about the question that has been bugging us!
*LOL* Just multiply ok? Go duracell bunny! *LOL*
