if you think you have seen it all in Gore vs Bush (2000) or Bush vs Kerry (2004), you are completely mistaken.

the fight for the 44th is as hot as it can get for now, 22 months away from the E-day. The level of news coverage is unprecedented. But you should not be surprised. The 2008 contest is an open field day with neither the incumbent or vice president seeking the office. 1952 was the last such scenario was played.

Who are the players?

From the Republican side, maverick Senator Cain is leading the pack with Rudy Giuliani (former mayor of New York), Mitt Romney (former governor of Massachusetts), New Gingrich (former speaker) as well as Condoleza Rice (Secretary of States) as possible contenders.

From the Democrats, Hillary ‘Lucifer’ Clinton is ahead. Barrack Obama (Senator from Illinois), John Edwards (former Vice President Candidate in 2000), Joe Biden (Senator from Delaware), Bill Richardson (Governor of New Mexico), and many more.

Michael Bloomberg (current New York City mayor) might enter the race as a possible independent, following the paths of Ross Perot in ‘92 and Ralph Nader in 2000.

My preference for the final showdown is well known with the two banners on the right side of this blog. McCain vs Obama would be a sight to see. But being pragmatic about the whole process, i can foresee this combination as the final tickets from both parties:

2008 showdown

Spot the difference!! Both have woman and both have black on the tickets. Now you call that a history in the making. Why this is so?

Firstly, Democrat’s stronghold is both woman and black voters. The Lucifer can win the Democratic primary given her domination and enormous campaign warchest thats envied by many candidates. Obama on the other hand, is a relatively newcomer in the scene. He is considered as inexperienced but his charisma and his skin color threatens the smooth ride of the Luficer. So solution….when you cant win over your enemy, make the first move and befriend him. The Lucifer will undoubtedly bring him as the VP candidate on the ticket.

Then what follows is just a pure logic. The Republican has to counter that with another dream ticket. With Powell now out of the US political scene, Rice is the only person with enough exposure and to some extent credibility, to be put on the ticket.

With this final combination, i predict McCain ticket will trump the Lucifer by a small margin. but first, McCain has his own battle to fight with the party faithfuls. He is seen as too liberal and his strong stance on the Iraq debacle will continue to overshadow him winning the primary outright. But his honesty and unwavering principles are to be admired. Unlike the Lucifer, he sticks to the his principles no matter how good or bad it becomes in the end.

Anyway….Cant wait… cant wait….(seem so far away!)

tip of the iceberg

i just realised that a few weeks ago, i barely scratched the surface of my junks… for those who claim that packing and moving is easy..i call your bull right now!

my apartment is in a total organised chaos. the only carpet in sight is the the naturally evolving footpath about 5 cm wide. surrounding them are rubbish and my stuffs in categorised piles….

and it’s already the third day!

scrambled and chaotic

i knew that this would happen. when you pretty much on holidays, you work your schedules based on different important events coming up. my palm has already been decommissioned early as the only 5.30 Sunday’s appointment that has been a constant fixture no longer warrants the use of it to help me remember. the rest is a mixture of last minute appointments, problems, phone calls and frantic emails.

today, things are a bit more settled even though its not really the end. just a quick recap, i have found our new accommodation and is currently waiting for a contract to be signed. the rent is quite on the upside, but u can’t really compare it with melbourne’s rent prices.

i also attended yvette’s farewell party (she’s seconding to Thailand for 3 months) where we also had a little reunion of the lovely berkeley people. yuki was also there and he came down to melbourne for two days where we spent our time visiting the locals. healesville sanctuary and penguin parade were on his agenda and we’re lucky enough to have weather-permitting conditions to visit those two places.

my ferrari was also on strike. i had to send it for repair and it’s another 3 days before a quote is produced for the go-ahead-to-fix-it decision.

in the mean time, i find a bit of solace from a temporary downtime. toll transition was kindly enough to send me the boxes early. in a 36 degrees day like today, even the lowest temperature provided by the aircon doesnt give the slightest incentive in me continuing to pack up my stuff. i know i have to do it now for procrastination will bear a hefty price. but i want an interim stopgap from all the topsy-turvy and helter-skelter of chaotic change, even if it’s only for a few solid hours.

Happy New Year

2007
01.01

I have to do this obligatory post on the first day of the new year with 20 minutes left on the clock. so here it is…. Happy New Year everybody!

The celebration for me was shared with friends along the Yarra River. The fireworks were ok. Obviously the $150k budget cant beat the $3m that Sydney has forked out. I noticed a coathanger was among the centerpiece ever since my trip in early December. Little did i know until a little bit of googling that the coathanger is the nickname for the Sydney Harbour Bridge and it’s celebrating its 75 years!

The countdown for us was quite hilarious. We were caught off-guard by the crowds around the bridge starting the countdown and by the time my count was at 3… the bloke behind me was at 6. I kept quiet unsure whether i was right, only to be blown away by the first shot of fireworks. He kept quiet after that… hahahha…

Anyway.. it was a fun nite…. and a great start of 2007! (even though i must admit that later in the morning, the reality of life has started to sink in.. and the new drama or more likely an old drama being played all over again with new twists). I’m starting to hate it. oh well…
