complacency and fear

Complacency is fear’s best friend. When you are avoiding fear, you tend to seek comfort, stability and routine. In the end, you become complacent. Maybe its a good thing. You need to anchor to something. But at what cost?

end of an era

Back after a long break to signify the end of an era and the beginning of an exciting journey.

Stay tuned.

Obama has won!

2008
04.25

Finally..after a long gruesome battle, Obama has won the Democratic nomination. The rules are clear: the candidate who has the most delegates win. Obama now commands an insurmountable and impossible to overtake lead in the pledged delegates. No politically realistic scenario can deny his being at the top of the ticket. Unless of course, he’s a muslim, he’s a terrorist, he has sex scandal, oh wait, the last time i checked, it was ok to have sex scandal in the White House (not in NY).

at the end of the day, the question we should be asking is, whose campaign are you proud of? There’s no single doubt in my mind that it’s Obama.

Yes We Can!

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

Genius!

RUDDslide

11.25

OMG….not only Johny has lost the govt, he has lost his own seat – creating history in itself…..this is by far the most satisfying election result in a long long long long time!!!

the hero is of course RUDD. 6% swing against the government, the biggest since Fraser’s ‘Nothing-Can-Save-The-Gov-General’ election…

i’m too excited…

it’s time and it’s time to deliver! I will be the first person to put my hands up in criticising the new Rudd Govt effort in executing those campaign promises:

-Education revolution
-End the blame game
-Investment in infrastructure especially broadband
-Ratify Kyoto
-Tear up Work Choices

5 points Mr Rudd….. you have 3 years.. and the clock is tickin!

past vs future

when i received a postcard from a friend currently in Rome, i couldnt hide my excitement. but beneath it is a message that resonates within:

“It’s really a ‘closed’ & ‘aloof’ and ‘out-of-touch’ church scene. Clinging to the past and afraid of the future!”

Like so many facets of life, the Catholic Church proud of its tradition but caught in the midst of the greatest advancement of human civilization. people who are uncertain about the future will only retreat to the things they know well. isolation and seclusion is what define and confine them. unfortunately, unless it’s ready to take that leap of faith to embrace the future and be the lead actor and agent of change, it will always be seen as the great barrier – where the only play it can yield is in defense.

my uncle is comin to town

when the latest newspoll was out today showing unassailable lead that Rudd has over Howard, nothing is more apt than Laurie Oakes’ comment in Sky News: “The lame duck is meeting the dead duck” – a pretty ’spot on’ reference to the imminent arrival of Bush to meet his ‘man-of-steel’ friend.

if you were around town, the security operation and precaution is massive. dustbins are covered in black plastic bag taped with police lines. security fences as long as 5km cordoned off the northern part of town. police presence is felt. it’s not far removed from a police state.

are they necessary? perhaps. terror attacks in Australia, as many have said, is not a matter of will but when. the next few days will be interesting news and political cycle. 21 leaders in one place when so many stickin world issues are at play – the timing of this APEC meeting is uncanny.

moment of weakness

i have that moment of weakness today when i decided to give in after a long struggling internal fight to forget.

its a test for me. whether i could ever do it. but at least im trying. no matter how hard it was and it will be.

April’s Fool

2007
04.01

Gmail’s April Fool this year is to offer a new service – Gmail Paper!

It claims to offer free physical copies of your email (unlimited) with just a click of a button. Pictures will be printed on glossy paper with paper clip attaching them to the mail.

I was fooled in the first few minutes – what gives it away for me is its claim on environmentally friendly paper:

Gmail Paper is made out of 96% post-consumer organic soybean sputum, and thus, actually helps the environment. For every Gmail Paper we produce, the environment gets incrementally healthier.

call it corny.. i call it genius! Go Google!

oh.. of course we cant miss the testimony:

“Now that I have Gmail Paper, I understand the difference between labels and folders. I had one message with two labels, but when I tried to stick the paper version into two filing cabinets at the same time, it just wouldn’t go.”
