Damien Rice at his best

2006
12.25

My mates who went to Cairns earlier this month have particular liking to Damien Rice’s old single – The Blower’s Daughter. I haven’t listened to the song since Closer’s debut but has renewed my interest ever since they kept humming them and playing it at every opportunity available.

Damien Rice is such a great artist and The Blower’s Daughter showcases his unbelievable vocal.

But apparently i have yet to see his best. Imagine him singing The Blower’s Daughter and did a cover for the infamous Radiohead’s Creep…

The result is an astonishing unbelievable genius melody….

p/s I can only get hold of his 2003’s performance in Pukkelpop Festival…The 2006 Concert in Singapore’s version is un-loadable in Youtube. He’s coming to Australia in Feb 2007 too!

To top it off… you must also watch the combination of his Cold Water and his cover for Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah

Soda Shop – Jay Brannan

I couldn’t find the lyric* of Soda Shop by Jay Brannan… so here’s my lame attempt:

Soda Shop
by Jay Brannan

The sidewalk is rushing at my head again
I’m lying on the street in the rain and wind
From doing forward rolls down Avenue A
With my guitar on my back don’t let it end this way

Somehow I dialed my cell
I didn’t know I could get service in hell
How quickly can you get here
Don’t know where I am dear
Finally the world actually seems to be revolving around me

Chorus:
Shoo-be-doo-be-doo-wop
I overdid it at the soda shop
Thanks for being my girl at the
I don’t know when to stop sock hop

You held my head over the edge of the bed
I remember it now but at the time I thought I was dead
You put a pan there and held back my hair
How could I repay you for saving me and my hardwood floor?

And when the world stops spinning ’round
I picked up pan above the ground
I read my upheaves much like tea leaves
They said it’s over so get sober or you’ll die….
Again……

*thanks to Nos85 for helping me to correct the lyric
*Jay Brannan has released the official lyric at his myspace

shortbus

i’m a proud owner of the newly released shortbus ost:

shortbus

after ringing about 20 music stores in and around the CBD, my stroke of luck came from Sanity Store @ Melb Central which only have one left in stock. I asked them to put it away for me and as i was picking it up, the gentleman who served me was quite surprised. He said: “OMG, this is extremely so popular…everybody has been asking about it… i didnt know that we have it in store and it must has just came in…and in fact, you are the first person i knew of who got it”.

if you haven’t watched shortbus, go to your local art house. it’s a must watch. while many highlights the explicit graphic sex, i’m more impressed with the storyline and of course, the music played!

Starcrossed – Ash

2004
08.07

Behold this night, still and clear
You look here just like an angel sleeping
I wish I could ease your fears
I would catch the diamond tears you’re weeping
In your eyes I would hide
By your side i could defy
The forces tearing us apart
But reality, as it seems
Looking back, is that our dream was fated from the start

Girl, we’re star-crossed and can’t escape,
We’re condemned and can only wait
At this time now it’s far too late
To save us from our fate

I’ll remain in your hold
Body, mind, heart and soul
As long as I breathe
Though consequence takes its toll
All is out of our control
That’s how it will be
So close your eyes my young bride
Listen to me one last time
There’s something I have to say
When your faith turns to despair
Always will my love be there
And never fade away

Girl, we’re star-crossed and can’t escape,
We’re condemned and can only wait
At this time now it’s far too late
To save us from our fate
You can’t save us
You can’t save us

Girl, we’re star-crossed and can’t escape,
We’re condemned and can only wait,
At this time now it’s far too late
The poison’s in our veins
It’s true
You know that I’d die for you
You know that I’d die for you
You know that I’d die for you
Forever true
I’ll see you through
